    Death of Mahatma Gandhi:


    On January 30, 1948, Mahatma Gandhi—the Father of the Indian nation—met an unfortunate end. 

    Gandhi was murdered in New Delhi, India, by Hindu nationalist Nathuram Godse who opposed his support for religious tolerance and peaceful coexistence. Gandhi was shot three times in the chest at close range as he was at a prayer meeting at Birla House.

    His murder startled the globe and had a significant effect on Indian history. Gandhi left behind a legacy of nonviolence, justice, and compassion that still motivates people today.
